Volleyball Returns to McGonigle Hall For First Time In a Month

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple volleyball team returns to McGonigle Hall for the first time in a month for the second week of American Athletic Conference play as it takes on South Florida and Florida Atlantic.
To begin the weekend, the Owls will take on South Florida on Friday night at 6 p.m. as part of the Camper Reunion and Resnick Tutor Recognition Day. Two days later, the Cherry and White will host Florida Atlantic at 1 p.m. Both matches will be available on ESPN+.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
- The Owls enter the weekend 6-8 overall and 0-2 in AAC play. Temple traveled to Wichita State and Tulsa falling to its midwest foes. On Friday, TU fell to WSU by the score 20-25, 25-20, 15-25, 25-27 and the dropped the second match of the weekend at Tulsa by the score of 20-25, 14-25, 23-25.
- Freshman Christiana Greene tallied seven blocks in as many sets in two matches last weekend versus Wichita State and Tulsa. In four sets versus Wichita State, Greene totaled four blocks and then in three sets versus Tulsa, she totaled three more.
- Freshman Sydney Jones was second on the team this past weekend with 19 kills while leading with 22 digs. The Havertown, Pa. native earned her third career double-double with with 12 kills and 10 digs on Friday night versus Wichita State. On Sunday, Jones led the team with 12 digs and was second on the team with seven kills versus Tulsa.
- Lexi Yoza quarterbacked the Owls offense to the tune of 43 assists over two matches versus Wichita State and Tulsa. The sophomore averaged 6.14 assists per set and was tied for second on the team during the weekend with 18 digs. Yoza came close to recording two double-doubles last weekend. Against the Shockers, Yoza led the Owls with 24 assists and dug eight balls. Two days later, the sophomore setter added her third double-double of the season with 19 assists and 10 digs.
- Taylor Davenport led the Owls offensively in each of the two matches versus Wichita State and Tulsa. The graduate student averaged 3.87 kills per set and totaling 27 overall against the Shockers. Versus WSU, Davenport averaged just over three kills per set while totaling 13, but then she upped her output two days later at Tulsa with 4.67 kills per set. The veteran totaled 14 versus Tulsa.
- Davenport leads the AAC in four offensive categories, including kills (217), kills per set (4.43), points (243.5), points per set (4.97)
SCOUTING SOUTH FLORIDA
- The Bulls have played five matches (1-4) against ranked teams in the AVCA Top 25 rankings. They come into the match 6-7 overall and 2-0 in conference play and hold down fourth place in the AAC going into the weekend.
- On Monday, Maria Clara Andrade was named the AAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Caroline Dykes earned her second AAC Setter of the Week honor of the season while Andrade earned her third Offensive Player of the Week honor in her career.
- Last weekend, USF hosted conference opponents Charlotte and East Carolina, coming away with two sweeps to open conference play. On Saturday, the Bulls took down the 49ers, not allowing them to reach 20 points in any set. Andrade added 16 kills and three aces while Puljiz contributed nine kills and two blocks in the win. On Sunday, USF defeated ECU with Andrade contributing another 16 kills. Dykes passed 3,500 career assists after dishing out 33 in the conference match up.
- Andrade leads the 2024 Bulls offense with185 kills while Puljiz leads the team in hitting percentage with .345. Titzi Puljiz and Imani Hartfield hold down the USF defense with 26 and 25 blocks respectively.
HISTORY VERSUS SOUTH FLORIDA
- The Bulls hold a 16-12 record versus the Owls. USF has won the three of the last five matches against Temple.
SCOUTING FLORIDA ATLANTIC
- The Owls come into the weekend 9-5 overall and 1-1 in conference. FAU enters the weekend tied for sixth in the AAC.
- Natalie Depaula was named the AAC Freshman of the Week, marking back-to-back AAC weekly honors. Depaula totaled 20 kills, averaging 2.86 kills per set and hit .429. Defensively, she added three digs and three blocks over the Owls' two matches.
- FAU opened up conference play last weekend against East Carolina and Charlotte, coming out 1-1. Friday say Florida Atlantic fall short in their conference opener against ECU in a 3-1 loss. Madison Dyer and Depaula registered double digit kills while Hensley provided 42 assists. Bouncing back with a 3-0 win over Charlotte on Sunday. Three different players saw double digits in the kill column. Allred and Hensley held down the net with 5 and 4 blocks respectively.
- Valeria Rosado and Katelynn Robine have registered 162 and 153 kills respectively. Dyer holds down the defense with 44 blocks on the season.
HISTORY VERSUS FLORIDA ATLANTIC
- The Cherry and White split the series, 1-1 (4-4 on sets), in our first series against FAU. This will be the first contest in McGonigle Hall between the two schools.
