Opening Tip
  • Temple men's basketball goes in search of its fourth straight victory on Saturday, as it travels to Massachusetts to take on Rhode Island in the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic.
  • The game is part of a doubleheader at MassMutual Center, with Arizona State-UMass taking place prior to the Temple game.
  • Junior Elijah Gray tallied the game-winning layup with four seconds remaining to propel the Owls to a third straight win on Wednesday night, a 62-61 thriler over Davidson.
  • The Owls trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half, but battled back and took the lead for good on Gray's finish down low. The Wildcats had an opportunity to win at the buzzer but a three-point attempt fell short.
  • With the win, Temple men's basketball became just the sixth program in NCAA Division I history to win 2,000 games as a program.
  • The Owls join UCLA, Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke and Kansas as the only schools to have accomplished the feat.
  • Senior Shane Dezonie was also a big factor down the stretch, as his blocked shot with the game tied and under a minute left led to a transition attempt for the Owls.
  • The carom was grabbed by Quante Berry, who found Dezonie streaking down the right side for a fast-break dunk to give Temple a two-point lead.
  • Davidson did connect on a three to take the lead with 10 ticks left, but Gray came through to secure the win for the Owls.
Scouting Rhode Island
  • The Rams enter having won 10 of their first 11 games to start the season, with the only blemish coming at in-state school Brown on Dec. 10.
  • Rhode Island ranks 19th nationally in scoring offense, averaging 85.7 points per game as a team.
  • Sebastian Thomas is averaging a team-high 17.3 points per game and is also the top assist man, dishing out over six per contest.
  • David Green (16.3 ppg), Jaden House (11.5 ppg) and Jamarques Lawrence (11.5 ppg) are also averaging double figures for the Rams.
