Opening Tip
The Temple University men's basketball team gears up for one of its toughest games of the season, traveling to No. 20 Florida Atlantic on Thursday, February 15. Tipoff from Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena in Boca Raton, Fla. is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with the game airing on ESPN2.

Last Time Out - Berry Ties Career-High Against Charlotte
TU battled to the final whistle against one of the top teams in the AAC, but the Owls were upended 73-70 by the Charlotte 49ers on Sunday afternoon.

BY THE NUMBERS
Supporting Cast
This past week's games saw Temple get significant contributions from its bench, averaging 30.0 points a game from its reserves against Memphis and Charlotte.  Prior to the two contests, Temple was getting 15.6 a night from bench players. The 31 points from non-starters against the 49ers on Sunday matched a season-high for a regulation game. Overall for the weekend, three different players tallied double figures off the bench with Shane Dezonie and Zion Stanford scoring 15 and 12 against Memphis, respectively, and Quante Berry posting 13 against Charlotte.

Not As Far Away As You Think
Admittedly, Temple's record in the AAC isn't the best to look at, but a closer look at the games shows that the Owls may not be as far off as people think. Five of the 10 losses for TU in conference play have been one possession games in the final minute or have gone to overtime. That includes both games this past weekend, where Temple trailed Memphis 80-77 with 27.9 seconds remaining and a three-point setback versus Charlotte in a game that featured a halfcourt buzzer beater to end the first 20 minutes.

Fresh Start February
After working through some growing pains and an injury following the NABC Brooklyn Showcase, Zion Stanford has found his game again in the month of February, particularly in the last two contests. Against Memphis and Charlotte, he averaged 10.5 points and 4.0 rebounds, while shooting 56.3 percent (9-for-16).  He also dished to his teammates, recording five assists in the two games, including a personal best with four versus the Tigers.

Island Rejuvenation
Apparently a holiday trip to Hawai'i was just the thing to kick start the season for Shane Dezonie. The junior guard from Pocono Mountains, Pa. has averaged 8.2 points and 4.3 rebounds a game in 13 contests since the beginning of the Diamond Head Classic, playing 21.9 minutes an outing and leads the Owls in three-point percentage at 37.0 percent. Six of his eight games in double figures have come since December 21, including 14 at SMU and a career-high 15 against Memphis. He also pulled in a personal best 10 boards against the Tigers for his first double-double. By contrast, in Temple's first 10 games of the year, Dezonie appeared in six, with 5.5 points and 2.7 rebounds a night in 10.8 minutes.

Birds Of A Feather
Thursday is one of the rarer mascot matchups as two teams with the nickname "Owls" face each other. Only four teams in NCAA Division I have that moniker with three of them – Temple, Rice and Florida Atlantic – in the American. Kennesaw State of the Atlantic Sun is the other.

Closing In
After scoring seven against Charlotte on Sunday, Steve Settle III is six points away from the 1,000 point mark in his career.

Scouting Report
Florida Atlantic comes into the game 19-5 overall and 9-2 in the AAC, following a 95-82 overtime win at Wichita State on Sunday. The Owls were picked to win the AAC in the preseason and are currently No. 24 in the AP poll and are receiving votes in the coaches poll. They have been ranked as high as No. 7 this season by the AP.

Leading the offense for FAU is Johnell Davis at 18.6 points per game. Vladislav Goldin and Alijah Martin each also average tally more than 13 a game at 14.2 and 13.2, respectively. Overall, eight players who have played in 15 or more games apiece average more than six a contest. Goldin tops the team at 6.9 rebounds an outing with Davis pulling in 6.8. Brian Greenlee has 75 assists.

Shooting the ball from all areas has been what has helped to push Florida Atlantic to new heights this year. FAU is 31st nationally in field goal percentage at 48.0 overall, but also ranks 52nd at 36.6 percent from beyond the arc. Even in the rare moments where it misses a shot, Florida Atlantic does an excellent job of getting second chance points with 12.3 offensive rebounds an outing.

It is hard to find a statistical area where FAU doesn't excel, but if there is one, it is traditional rim protecting as it is 278th in NCAA Division I and 12th in the AAC in blocked shots at 2.7 a contest. It is also middle of the pack nationally in overall field goal percentage defense (43.5) and three-point percentage defense (33.3).

Dusty May is in his sixth season as the head coach at Florida Atlantic with a record of 120-65. While FAU gained national attention for its Final Four run last season, May has guided the Owls to six consecutive winning seasons and won a game in their respective conference tournament in three of the last four years.
