Opening Tip
The Temple University men's basketball team plays its regular season finale on Sunday, March 10 when it travels to UTSA. Tipoff from the Convocation Center in San Antonio, Texas is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. EDT.

Last Time Out - Stanford Records Career-High Scoring Total Against UAB
Zion Stanford had his best offensive game since December, but the Temple was downed by the UAB Blazers 100-72 on Thursday night.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Stanford topped the Owls with a career-high 20 points, going 6-for-8 from the floor.
  • Jahlil White netted 11 with a team-high five rebounds.
  • Shane Dezonie and Hysier Miller each scored eight.

Zion Delivers
Freshman guard Zion Stanford had one of his top games against UAB with a career-high 20 points. His previous best came against Saint Joseph's in the Big 5 Classic when he had 19. After a rough 11-game stretch from December 16 through February 4, the Philadelphia native has seen a resurgence, averaging 8.1 points per game since February 8. He is shooting 58.5 percent (24-for-41) from the floor during the span.

Continuing To Value The Ball
Despite facing a 1-3-1 press that extended out to midcourt, Temple stayed under its season average, committing 10 turnovers against UAB, including just three in the second half. It is the seventh consecutive game where Temple has coughed the ball up 10 times or less. Among that span is a stretch of five in a row with single digit turnovers and a season-low matching five against Charlotte on February 11. Temple ranks 50th in NCAA Division I in turnovers per game at 10.3 and 64th in turnover margin at +1.9.

Thievery
One reason for the aforementioned turnover margin is that TU is in the top-100 nationally, averaging 7.3 steals per game, up more than two per contest from last season. Both Hysier Miller and Steve Settle III have more than 40 takeaways this year.

Finding Their Shot
The Owls have connected at their best clip of the season in the most recent three games, hitting 45.5 percent of their field goals. They have also shot well from three-point range, going 28-for-70 (40.0 percent). Individually, Zion Stanford is 11-for-18 during the span and Hysier Miller is shooting 45.2 percent and is 11-for-21 from beyond the arc.

Texas...Four Step?
Sunday marks the fourth game Temple plays in the state of Texas this season as they have faced each conference school based in the state on the road. The string started with North Texas and SMU on January 13 and 16 followed by Rice on February 28. The only other school in the conference to face all four Texas teams on the road this season is East Carolina.

Scouting Report
UTSA enters 11-19 overall with a 5-12 mark in the American and is coming off a 77-73 win at SMU on March 2. The Roadrunners are one of the hottest teams in the conference with three wins in a row including a pair away from home.

Leading the offense for UTSA is Jordan Ivy-Curry at 17.7 points per game. Christian Tucker and Carlton Linguard, Jr. are also around double figures, tallying 11.1 and 9.5 a night, respectively. Linguard tops the team in rebounding at 5.8 a contest with Trey Edmonds close behind at 5.7. Tucker leads the AAC and is in the top-35 nationally with 164 assists.

The bench has been a big lift for the Roadrunners this season, who are averaging 32.5 points per game from their reserves. They have also done a good job on the offensive glass with 13.2 a contest. UTSA also enjoys taking its threes, ranking ninth nationally in attempts and 16th in makes.

The Roadrunners have struggled with their overall shot at times this season, sitting 13th in the conference and in the bottom-50 nationally at 41.2 percent. While they do a good job of scoring the ball, they have struggled to keep teams off the board, ranking 347th in scoring defense at 81.4 an outing, surrendering 88 or more on 10 occasions this season and given up triple digits three times.

Steve Henson is in his eighth season as the head coach of UTSA with a record of 110-142. His best year came in 2017-18 when he guided the team to a 20-15 mark.

All-Time Series
Sunday is the second matchup all-time between Temple and UTSA in men's basketball. TU won the only previous contest, which came just three weeks ago.

Last Time Against The Roadrunners
Hysier Miller scored 20 points and added four assists as the Owls broke a 10-game losing streak with an 83-77 win on February 18. Jahlil White posted 15 off the bench. Steve Settle III scored 16. His first field goal of the game, a three-pointer 2:37 into the contest, allowed him to reach the 1,000 point mark in his career. Jordan Riley was also in double figures, scoring 12.

Up Next
Temple is back in action on Wednesday, March 13 in the First Round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament.
