Field Hockey Heads South for Weekend Action

PHILADELPHIA – Coming off a successful opening weekend, the Temple field hockey team heads on the road for a pair of challenging contests, taking on No. 3 Virginia on Friday and Richmond on Sunday.

Scouting Temple
- The Owls started the year with an offensive explosion, scoring 13 goals in the first two games of the season.
- It is the first time since 1958 that Temple scored 13 or more goals in the opening two games of the season. The 7-0 win against Queens on Friday was the biggest opening game victory since a 7-0 triumph against Swarthmore in 1967.
- Eight different players have scored a goal for the Owls, led by two each from Halle Aschenbach, Marsha Ariesen and Devin Kinzel.
- Aschenbach and Kinzel were both named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll.
- Through two games, Temple has taken 60 shots and generated 26 penalty corners.
Scouting Virginia
- The Cavaliers come in ranked No. 3 in the Penn Monto NFHCA Division I poll.
- UVA enters the contest 1-0 with a 2-1 victory against No. 16 Penn State on Friday, August 30. The Cavaliers scored the game-winning goal with 2:52 remaining in the contest.
- Virginia went 14-7 last season and advanced to the NCAA semifinals.
- The Cavaliers return their top-three scorers from a year ago in Noa Boterman, Daniela Mendez-Trendler and Taryn Tkachuk.
- Ole Keusgen is in his first season as the head coach at Virginia following a nine-year stint as both an assistant coach and associate head coach.

Scouting Richmond
- The Spiders enter the game 1-1, falling to No. 18 Old Dominion in their opener before rallying to beat William & Mary on Sunday.
- Clara Larripa led the offense against the Tribe, scoring the final four goals of the contest.
- Larripa was named preseason All-Atlantic10. As a team, Richmond was picked to finish fourth.
- Stevie Drum is the leading returning scorer for the Spiders from 2023 with eight goals and an assist last season.
- Martu Loncarica is in her first season as the head coach at Richmond. She spent the previous three seasons at crosstown rival La Salle where she was the 2023 A10 Coach of the Year.
