Owls, Spiders Battle to Overtime on Sunday

RICHMOND, Va. – After a frenzied first quarter that saw all the scoring in regulation, the Temple field hockey team and the Richmond Spiders needed overtime before Richmond snuck away with a 3-2 win on Sunday afternoon.

Halle Aschenbach and Tess Muller each recorded goals for the Owls.
Alize Maes delivered an assist.
Temple held a 5-4 edge in penalty corners.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Things got off to a fast start as after an early goal from the Spiders, Ashcenbach answered back with her third tally of the season. Richmond scored again at 11:14, but coming off a corner, Muller took a return pass from Maes and delivered a goal, tying the score at 2-2. For the period, Temple drove the pace of play, generating an 8-3 shot advantage.
From there, neither team could dent the scoreboard in the next three quarters. The defense dialed up on both sides with just 13 total shots taken in the final 45 minutes.
In overtime, each team had a shot blocked before Richmond knocked in the game-winner off a deflection.
