Gymnastics Head on the Road for Lone Star Challenge

SAN ANTONIO -Â The Temple Owls are heading to San Antonio for their second meet of the season, the Lone Star Challenge, where they'll face No. 7 Auburn, No. 9 Penn State, Maryland, and Arizona State in a highly competitive field.Â
VAULT
At the Owls' last meet, Renee Schugman delivered Temple's highest vault score of 9.775, while Kyrstin Johnson added a solid 9.725. Amelia Budd, Hannah Weklar, and Harmony Haro also contributed key scores, securing a strong team total. Nikki Rengifo rounded out the vault lineup with a 9.425.
Temple's vault lineup demonstrated strong execution and consistency, with each vaulter playing an important role in the team's success throughout the competition.
BARS
On bars, Mariella Brueck and Weklar were the top performers, each posting a team-high score of 9.700. Their routines were marked by precision and consistency, anchoring the lineup and setting a strong foundation for the event.
Breanna Varano also contributed with a solid 9.450 routine, helping maintain the team's momentum.

Donabedian was the top performer on floor, securing a team-high 9.825 with a routine full of energy and precision. Schugman and Summer Ruskey added strong backing with scores of 9.775 and 9.750, respectively, each helping to strengthen the Owls' total score.
Dorunda, Weklar, and Johnson also contributed to the floor score, with Dorunda earning 9.725, Weklar achieving 9.675, and Johnson finishing with 9.100. Their efforts ensured the Owls maintained a competitive presence throughout the event.
SCOUTING AUBURN
Auburn enters the meet ranked No. 7 after a strong 195.950 at the American Gold Nashville Collegiate Championship. The Tigers excel on beam, ranking third nationally with a score of 49.250. Freshman Katelyn Jong and Marissa Neal made an impact individually, with Jong tying for seventh on bars and Neal tying for seventh on beam in her first collegiate meet.
SCOUTING PENNÂ STATE
No. 21 Penn State opened the 2025 season with a 195.775, earning victories over Penn (194.725) and New Hampshire (192.025). This marks the Nittany Lions' highest season-opening score in program history. Kalea McElligott (39.150) and freshman Elizabeth Leary (39.050) delivered strong all-around performances, with Leary earning the Ann Carr Award for her inspiring collegiate debut.
SCOUTING MARYLAND
Maryland finished last season with a 13-7 record and ranked No. 26 in NQS scoring. The Terps return key contributors, including Alexa Rothenbuescher, who earned All-Big Ten honors, and Natalie Martin, the team's beam leader. With five event starters returning, Maryland posted their highest team score (196.775) and NQS (196.790) in history, setting a strong program benchmark.
SCOUTINGÂ ARIZONA STATE
Arizona State finished last season with an 8-5 record, ranking No. 16 on the Road to Nationals, marking their seventh straight top-25 finish. The Gym Devils advanced to the NCAA Regional Finals for the third time in four years, posting a season-high 197.600 against Southern Connecticut. With an NQS of 196.920, Arizona State maintained a winning record for the third consecutive season, highlighted by a significant win over No. 10 UCLA.
