Temple Falls to Top-Ranked Opponents at the Lone Star Challenge

SAN ANTONIO – The Owls wrapped up competition at the Lone Star Challenge Saturday afternoon after taking on #7 Auburn, #9 Penn State, Maryland, and Arizona State. Temple ended the meet with a 192.350 overall score.
 
Temple will be back on the road next Saturday when they travel to Brooklyn, N.Y. to face LIU in the EAGL season opener.
 
 
ROTATION 1 (BEAM: 47.650)
  • Brooke Donabedian matched her score from last week on the balance beam, finishing the day with a 9.700. That score marked the top one for the Owls on the apparatus.
  • Renee Schugman and Madison Dorunda each tallied higher scores on beam down in Texas.
  • The duo ended the event each with a 9.675. Kyrstin Johnson and Summer Ruskey scored 9.575 and 9.025, respectively. This was Ruskey's first event on beam this season.
 
ROTATION 2 (FLOOR: 48.925)
  • Yet again, the Cherry and White shined on the floor in today's competition. Two Owls finished within the top-10 on the apparatus.
  • Johnson and Ruskey finished their routines scoring 9.850 each. This score marks season-highs for both gymnysts.
  • The 9.850 for both was good enough to rank them tied for sixth overall in the meet.
  • Madison Dorunda and Renee Schugman recorded a 9.750, which marks a season-high for Dorunda.
  • Hannah Weklar and Brooke Donabedian rounded out the group, scoring a 9.725 and a 9.075, respectively.
 
 
ROTATION 3 (VAULT: 48.625)
  • Temple continued strong, improving upon their vault scores from last week.
  • Three Owls finished with the high scores on the team sitting at 9.750. Amelia Budd, Nikki Rengifo, and Harmony Haro represented those scores.
  • Schugman did not finish far behind the trio, ending her routine with a 9.725. Weklar and Johnson followed Schugman, each scoring a 9.650.
 
 
ROTATION 4 (BARS: 47.150)
  • The Owls finished the day on bars, which ultimately was where they struggled the most during the meet.
  • In her first event of the season, however, Sarah Stallings led Temple scoring a 9.700.
  • Reese DeHaan and Weklar represented 9.650 each, with Breanna Varano following behind with a 9.525.
  • Dorunda and Mariella Brueck followed in with an 8.625 and a 8.425, respectively.
