Gymnastics Travels to North Carolina for Quad Meet

CHAPEL HILL, NC - Temple gymnastics is ready to hit the road for a quad meet in North Carolina, facing off against No. 23 North Carolina University, University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University. The Owls look to build on their recent performances as they compete against a competitive field in Chapel Hill.

VAULT
Temple started strong on vault at the Senior Night against Bowling Green University, posting one of their highest team scores of the season. Hannah Weklar and Kyrstin Johnson led the lineup with matching 9.800s, the top scores of the meet. Renee Schugman followed closely with a 9.775, while Amelia Budd added a 9.725 to round out the scoring for the Owls.

BARS
The bars proved to be Temple's best event of the night, as the team set a season-high score of 48.875. Hannah Weklar and Mariella Brueck led the way, earning a career-high 9.825. Sarah Stallings posted a strong 9.800, while Reese DeHaan contributed a 9.725 to complete the standout performance on the apparatus.  

BEAM
Seniors Madison Dorunda and Brooke Donabedian delivered standout performances on the beam. Dorunda earned a season-high 9.875 to take first place in the meet. Donabedian and Megan White both scored 9.750, helping Temple maintain consistency in the event.  

FLOOR
Temple closed the meet with a solid showing on the floor, with three gymnasts earning at least a 9.800. Brooke Donabedian led the way with a 9.850, tying for the top score of the event. Kyrstin Johnson and Mariella Brueck followed with matching 9.800s, a career-high for Brueck. Nikki Rengifo contributed a strong 9.750 to round out the Owls' floor rotation.

SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA
No. 24 North Carolina enters the meet following a strong performance at the Metroplex Challenge, where they posted their second-highest score of the season (196.200) against No. 1 Oklahoma. Senior Lali Dekanoidze remains a standout for the Tar Heels, winning bars outright with a 9.950—her 21st career victory in the event. All-around competitor Julia Knower remains a key contributor, earning a 39.225 in her most recent outing, highlighted by a 9.825 on both beam and floor.

SCOUTING UPENN
UPenn enters the meet as the defending Ivy Classic champions, recently earning a season-high score of 195.375 to secure their 15th title in program history. Led by standout performers Jordan Barrow and Skyelar Kerico, the Quakers showcased their depth across all events. Kerico won the bars with a 9.875 and contributed to the team's impressive scores on vault and floor. Penn's balance beam performance, highlighted by Mimi Fletcher's 9.850 and a team score of 48.925, set the tone for their repeat bid, while their floor exercise score of 49.125 marked their best performance in the event since 2018.

SCOUTING YALE
Yale gymnastics comes into the meet after posting a season-best team score of 194.775 at the Ivy Classic, securing a third-place finish. Top performers include first-year Hailey Kriz, who placed second on the beam with a personal-best score of 9.875, and Gigi Sabatini and Chloe DeJoy, who both led the Bulldogs on the floor with 9.850s. The Bulldogs have shown consistent improvement, recording three team scores over 194 this season, and will look to continue their strong performances across all events.

UP NEXT
Owls will host Maryland at McGonigle Hall in Philadelphia, PA, on March 5 at 12:00 p.m. for School Day/Superhero Day.
