Rieger’s Early Strike Secures 1-0 Win for Owls Over Lafayette
9.12.25 | Field Hockey
The Owls have now won 14 consecutive regular-season home games at Howarth Field
PHILADELPHIA – Senior midfielder Peyton Rieger tallied the contest's lone goal in the third minute, lifting the Temple University field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Lafayette on Friday afternoon at Howarth Field.
The Owls (4-1) earned consecutive wins against Patriot League opponents and look to make it three straight on Sunday at Lehigh. The Leopards (3-2) dropped their second consecutive road match after falling to William & Mary last weekend.
How It Happened
It looked like a high-scoring affair might unfold early, as Agustina Tucceri found Rieger just over the two-minute mark for the contest's lone goal. It was the first goal of the season for the senior from Woolwich, N.J.

Behind the Numbers
Lafayette held a slim 7-6 edge in shots, with both squads posting four shots on goal. There was just one penalty corner in the contest, awarded to the Cherry and White.
The Leopards pushed late, pulling their goalkeeper for an extra attacker over the final 4:45.
Goalkeeper Alex Lepore (4-0) made four saves to secure her first career shutout. The clean sheet was Temple's first of the season and its first since a 2-0 victory over Lehigh in the 2024 regular-season finale at Howarth Field.
Rieger now ranks second on the squad with five points, trailing only Lucia Magro's seven. She is tied for the team lead in assists (3) with Tucceri.
Temple has now won 14 consecutive regular-season home games at Howarth Field, dating back to 2023. The Owls are tied with UMass for the second-longest active home winning streak in the nation. Only defending national champion Northwestern (22) holds a longer streak. Temple has not lost a regular-season home contest since falling 3-0 to No. 9 Liberty on Sept. 29, 2023.
The matchup marked the seventh straight meeting between Temple and Lafayette decided by a single goal. The Owls avenged last year's 2-1 overtime defeat to the Leopards.
