Charise Young Lifts Field Hockey to 1-0 Win at Lafayette

Junior goalkeeper Sarah Dalrymple earns the first shutout of her career

Box Score

EASTON, Pa.
- The Temple field hockey team overcame strong rain and wind on the road to defeat Lafayette by a count of 1-0 and pick up their second victory of the season. Weather conditions were less than ideal but that didn't thwart the Owls from revenging a loss to the Leopards a year ago.

Senior Charise Young netted the game-winner 12 minutes into the second half to lift the Owls to victory. The goal was the first on the season for Young. Sophomore Becca Keener found Young on the left side to pick up her first assist of the year and help break the scoreless tie.

The lone goal was all the Cherry and White would need to pick up the road victory as junior Sarah Dalrymple made four saves on the day and picked up the first shutout of her career.

Neither team held many advantages offensively as the Owls fired seven shots on the day, three of which were on goal, compared to six and four for the Leopards. Both teams finished the game with four penalty corners.

“The team played great today, said head coach Amanda Janney. "The weather conditions were tough, with the rain and strong wind, but they fought through it and didn't let it bother them. Our seniors stepped up and made some big time plays all over the field. I'm really proud of the team as they earned this shutout against the high pressure of Lafayette's forwards. Lafayette beat us here last year and it put a dent in our win record and we wanted to make sure that didn't happen again.”

There is little rest for the Owls as they return to Philly to take on Rutgers on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. The game, which was originally scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Geasey Field, has been moved to Buckley Field on the campus of Drexel University.
