PHILADELPHIA – Temple received first-half goals from Caryn Lambright and Carissa Young to propel the Cherry and White to a 3-2 victory over Lock Haven and clinch a berth in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament next weekend.
The Owls (9-11, 4-3 A-10), will host the tournament at Geasey Field on Nov. 5-6. The semifinals will take place on Friday, Nov. 5 at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., with the championship set for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6. Official match-ups will be announced by the Atlantic 10 on Monday, Nov. 1.
Temple turned in a strong all-around performance on Senior Day at Geasey Field as the team honored seniors Kylee Yetter, Taryn Nichols, Katey DeIaco, and Sarah Dalrymple before the game.
Lambright opened the scoring 19 minutes into the contest to give Temple a 1-0 advantage. Carissa Young fired a shot that found the back of the net just over three minutes later for the 2-0 lead. The Eagles would claw back into the contest 11 minutes later as Tonia-Marie James scored to cut the Temple lead to 2-1. Despite being outshot 7-5 in the first half, the Owls held the lead at halftime.
With just over 10 minutes to play in the contest, Katie Briglia scored on a Bridget Settles pass to give Temple a two-goal cushion. Lock Haven (14-6, 5-2) would strike quickly to shave the deficit to one, but the Owls finished with sound defensive play in the final minutes of the game to seal the win.
The Owls outshot Lock Haven 5-3 in the second half. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Dalrymple turned in a strong performance and made three saves in her final regular season home game.
