WASHINGTON, D.C. – For the third straight game, the Temple field hockey team shut out its opponent and the Owls improved to 4-0 with a 2-0 win against Georgetown (3-1) on Sunday afternoon.
The Owls' 4-0 start is their best in nine seasons, since the 2001 team started 4-0 before losing its fifth game. No Temple team has started 5-0 since 1983.
Freshman Lauren Hunt scored her second career goal, the game-winner, and junior Bridget Settles added her fourth goal of the season as well as an assist on Hunt's goal.
With just under 20 minutes elapsed in the game, Hunt found the back of the net on a pass from Settles. The first half saw just seven total shots by the two teams; three by Temple and four by Georgetown.
The Owls' senior goalkeeper Sarah Dalrymple made two saves in the first half, but Temple held the Hoyas to only one shot in the second half, which was not on goal.
With 20 minutes remaining in the game, Settles scored on one of TU's four penalty corners, off an assist from junior Carissa Young.
Temple will bring its undefeated record back home next weekend for the start of a five-game homestand at Geasey Field. Next up, the Owls will face Lafayette at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10.
