PHILADELPHIA - Lafayette's Maria Machalick's double-overtime goal ended the Temple field hockey's undefeated run to start the 2010 season, as the Owls (4-1) suffered a 2-1 loss to the Leopards (1-2). Machalick's shot deflected off a Temple defender and into the net after 88 minutes of play on Friday afternoon at Geasey Field.

Temple started slow offensively and found itself on the defensive for much of the first half. Lafayette scored the first goal of the game six minutes before halftime as Deanna DiCroce tipped in a shot by Meghan Chicchi off a penalty corner.

The Owls were out shot 7-3 in the first half but came together in the second half, out-shooting Lafayette 8-6.

Bridget Settles scored on her own rebounded shot and save early in the second half for the lone Temple goal, her team-high fifth goal of the season.

The teams played through one scoreless overtime period with the lone shot coming from the Owls, but it was the Leopards who got off the lone shot and goal in the second overtime period.

Temple goalkeeper Sarah Dalrymple, who had recorded three straight shutouts, was strong in goal despite the loss and recorded six saves on Lafayette's 14 total shots.

"I'm not disappointed in our effort, just in our execution," said Temple head coach Amanda Janney. "We had the opportunities and just weren't able to capitalize when we needed to."

The Owls return to the field for the second game of a five-game homestand on Friday, Sept. 17 at 3:30 p.m. against Delaware.
