Field Hockey Loses After Strong Second Half by American

Owls lead 1-0 at the half; ultimately fall 3-2

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Despite leading at halftime after an early goal by senior Caryn Lambright, the Temple field hockey team suffered a 3-2 loss on the road at American. The Eagles (5-5) scored three second-half goals and controlled the offense for much of the game to defeat the Owls (3-9) who will start Atlantic 10 play next week.
Lambright scored three minutes into the game on an assist from Katie Briglia to give the Owls a 1-0 lead, which stood through halftime despite a 9-2 advantage in shots by American in the first half.
All three of the Eagles' goals came in a 16-minute span midway through the second half as they took a 3-1 lead, and a late goal by Temple's Amber Youtz with two minutes remaining was not enough for the Owls. Bridget Settles assisted on Youtz's goal, which was scored on a deflection after a corner.
Temple's next game will mark the start of conference play, as the Owls face city rival Saint Joseph's at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7.
