Field Hockey Hosts More Strong Competition in Temple Tournament This Weekend

Owls welcome #9 Michigan, Ohio, Towson and Saint Joseph's to Geasey Field
PHILADELPHIA - For the second straight weekend, the Temple field hockey team will host strong competition on its own Geasey Field, as the Owls are set to face No. 9 Michigan as well as undefeated Ohio on Sept. 3-4. Temple (1-1) will play the Wolverines (1-1) in the first game of the Temple Tournament at noon on Saturday, Sept. 3.
The Owls will face Ohio (3-0) on Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., while Saint Joseph's (0-2) will take on Ohio Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and then face Towson on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Temple defeated Bucknell, 4-0 in its first game of the season thanks to a hat trick from Bridget Settles and strong goaltending by Lizzy Millen. The Owls faltered in their second game against defending national champ and No. 1 Maryland, losing 6-0.
Michigan is coming off a split in the opening weekend's ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Ocker Field. The Wolverines fell to No. 2 North Carolina, 5-0, on Aug. 27 but rebounded with a 2-1 win over No. 11 Wake Forest the next day.
The Wolverines own a 6-1 record all-time against Temple, including a 5-1 win in the last meeting in 2009. U-M has won the past five meetings between the schools.
Ohio is undefeated so far at 3-0, and most recently scored a 2-1 upset of No. 6 Ohio State when Taylor Brown scored on a penalty corner in the 65th minute of the game. The Bobcats, who are receiving votes in the national poll, also earned shutout wins against St. Francis (7-0 score) and against Richmond (1-0 score). The meeting between Ohio and Temple will be the first between the two programs.
