Box Score (PDF)
PHILADELPHIA (Buckley Field) - The Owls struck first, and out-shot the Dragons 15-6, but ultimately it was Drexel field hockey that came away with a 2-1 win after an equalizer and a late goal. Bridget Settles scored the lone tally for Temple (3-5) while Amanda Fleischut scored both goals for Drexel (6-2).
After beating a number of defenders down the field on a quick run, Mandi Shearer fed a pass to Settles who laid out to beat the Drexel keeper and put the ball in the net with five minutes remaining in the first half.
Temple looked to have a second goal with 28 minutes left in the game when Settles put the ball in after a rebounded shot and save on a penalty corner attempt, but the goal was called back by the officials.
Just five minutes later, Drexel's Fleischut got one past Temple keeper Lizzy Millen into the left side of the cage to even the score at 1-1. After solid defense by both teams for most of the rest of the second half, the score remained knotted until a penalty corner opportunity for Drexel with 2:01 on the clock resulted in Fleischut's second goal.
Temple will be back in action at Penn State on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6:00 p.m.
