Owls set to face their fourth ranked team this season

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey team will face its fourth ranked team of the 2011 season at home on Friday afternoon, as the Owls play host to No. 11 Cal at 3:00 p.m. on Geasey Field. Temple is looking to rebound from a narrow loss its last time out, and to defeat its first ranked team of the year.

Cal (8-2) will play at Saint Joseph's on Thursday before facing the Owls (3-7) on Friday. Of the Bears' two losses this season, one was a tough, 3-2 loss to No. 8 Stanford. Sophomore Andrea Earle leads Cal with 10 goals this season including three game-winners.

Temple is led by senior Bridget Settles with 10 goals. Among all active players in Division I, Settles is currently tied for 16th with 35 career goals. Three of Settles' goals have been game-winners, and she has earned two Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Awards this season.

The Owls are nearing conference play, but after Cal they will face one more tough test on the road this Sunday when they travel to American. The Eagles are currently effectively ranked 26th in the national coaches poll, as they are the first team receiving votes that is not ranked. Temple will play its first A-10 game on the road next Friday, Oct. 7, at city rival Saint Joseph's.
