Field Hockey Faces Rivals Delaware and #15 Drexel at Home This Weekend

9.13.12 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA - The stretch of home games continues for Temple field hockey this week as the Owls get set to face Delaware on Friday, Sept. 14 at 3:00 p.m., and then #15 Drexel on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 1:00 p.m. The Owls (2-4) are looking to rebound after two tough outings a week ago, and also to get their first win over a ranked team after narrowly falling to two ranked teams at the beginning of the season.

Live stats for both games will be available HERE, and Sunday's game against Drexel will be webcast HERE.

Sophomore Amber Youtz leads Temple with four goals and three assists for 11 total points this season, while junior Lauren Hunt has scored three goals and sophomore Nicole Kroener has two. Senior Katie Briglia leads the team in assists with three, and also scored a goal for Temple against #8 Penn State. Goalkeeper Lizzy Millen has started every game for the Owls, and recently made a career-high 12 saves against Penn State.

Delaware began its season with four straight losses, but the Blue Hens have since rebounded to win two of their last three and they now stand at 2-5 overall. The first win was over Temple's city rival Saint Joseph's, 3-1, and the Blue Hens recently defeated Monmouth, also by a score of 3-1. Niki Onorato and Michaela Patzner lead Delaware with four goals apiece and one game-winner each.

The Owls have a long history against Delaware, and currently trail in the all-time series 11-17-1. Temple got the better of the Blue Hens on the road a year ago, 2-1, while Delaware took the three games prior to that.

Drexel, currently ranked 15th in the NFHCA Poll, has only one blemish on its record so far. The Dragons are 5-1 overall including wins over two other ranked teams: Duke and Cal. Most recently, Drexel fell 2-1 to #16 Stanford, and the Dragons will play Lafayette on the road before Sunday's game at Temple. Lindsay McArdle leads Drexel with four goals and two assists, while goalkeeper Jantien Gunter has allowed just five goals while making 24 saves.

There is a Temple connection on Drexel's team, as freshman Lauren Hibshman is the sister of Owl sophomore Sydney Hibshman.

Temple leads Drexel 16-8-1 in the all-time series, but has lost four in a row to the Dragons. The last win for the Owls was 2-1 in overtime in 2007.
