Field Hockey Edged by Region Rival Delaware, 4-3

9.14.12 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA - Despite coming up with a game-tying goal in the 60th minute, the Temple field hockey team ultimately fell 4-3 to visiting Delaware after the Blue Hens netted the game-winner four minutes later. Freshman Alyssa Delp scored twice for the Owls (2-5), as did Delaware's Kelsey McKee who got the game-winning goal on a penalty corner.

Delp got things going early for Temple when Lauren Hunt passed to her from the center and Delp was able to reverse flick the ball into the upper corner. That goal gave the Owls a 1-0 lead just five minutes into the game, but Delaware would go on to score twice before the Owls got on the scoreboard again.

Hannah Pepper hit a shot into the upper right for the Blue Hens on an assist from Jackie Covelski in the 15th minute to tie the game, and McKee scored her first of two goals on a corner in the 27th minute.

Less than a minute and a half before halftime, Delp tied the game with an assist from Amber Youtz on a scramble in front of the net. The Owls and Blue Hens were then tied 2-2 going into the break, but Delaware wasted little time pulling ahead yet again.

Kasey Prettyman hit a shot into Temple goalkeeper Lizzy Millen that appeared saved just three minutes into the second half, but the ball got past Millen as the Blue Hens took a 3-2 lead.

The Delaware lead stood for over 20 minutes until Youtz scored on her own rebounded shot and save with just over 10 minutes left in regulation, but once again Delaware cut the celebration short when McKee scored her second goal which proved to be the game-winner.

The Owls will be back in action at home on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 1:00 p.m. against #15 Drexel.
