Amber Youtz's Fourth Career Hat Trick Leads #17 Field Hockey Past Providence, 3-1

10.11.13 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA - Behind the fourth career hat trick from junior Amber Youtz, #17 Temple field hockey defeated visiting Providence College by a score of 3-1 in BIG EAST action on Friday afternoon. The performance by Youtz was all the more impressive considering it was her first game back on the field after missing four games due to injury.

The Owls are now 10-3 overall and 3-1 in the BIG EAST, while Providence falls to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

"It didn't take long for Amber to let it be known that she's back," said Temple head coach Amanda Janney. "The team really fought hard and I think we started out with a lot of intensity- it was great to get an early lead. Our defense handled a tremendous amount of pressure from Providence, with so many corners and a lot of really hard shots. Lizzy stepped up and our defense really played hard to make sure we didn't give them too much."

The Owls' redshirt-junior goalkeeper, Lizzy Millen, finished with nine saves in the contest, and faced 15 penalty corners by Providence. Deidra Clymer made 10 saves for the Friars.

Youtz's first two goals were just two minutes apart. She scored in the 13th minute of the game when Alyssa Delp passed the ball from the right side and Youtz was able to slip it past Clymer for a 1-0 lead.

In the 15th minute, Tricia Light took a strong shot that rebounded off Clymer and was collected by Youtz, who put it into the right side of the cage.

The 2-0 lead was short-lived, as Providence scored its lone goal just over two minutes after the Owls' second goal. Kaleigh FitzPatrick inserted the ball to Emma Mackie on a penalty corner, and Mackie took the shot herself to put the Friars on the board.

The second half was a back-and-forth battle as Temple clung to its narrow lead, and it wasn't until just three minutes remained that Youtz was able to give her team an insurance goal. She once again came up with the ball off a rebounded shot and save, and put it in the cage to score her 13th goal of the season.

Temple will be back in action at home on Sunday, Oct. 13, facing #20 Old Dominion at 1:00 p.m.
