Field Hockey Opens 2014 Season at Conference Cup Tournament in Lancaster

PHILADELPHIA - The start of the 2014 season has nearly arrived for Temple field hockey, as the Owls head to Lancaster, Pa., this weekend for the annual Conference Cup Tournament. Temple has hosted the tournament for the past few years, but this year takes the Owls and three other teams to The Spooky Nook, the official training site of USA Field Hockey.

Temple and Maryland are co-hosting the tournament, but will not play each other. The Owls and the Terps will meet in College Park in two weeks. For the Conference Cup, the Owls will play Northeastern out of the CAA on Friday, Aug. 29 at 7:00 p.m., and will play #10 UMass out of the Atlantic 10 on Sunday, Aug. 31 at 3:00 p.m. Preseason #1 Maryland (Big Ten) will play UMass on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and will face Northeastern on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Tickets to the Conference Cup are $8 for adults and $5 for students (with student ID) and children under 14. Fans can purchase a $45 package for all four games of the Conference Cup that includes admission to a clinic Saturday hosted by Maryland and Temple. The clinic is from 12-2 p.m. and is $25 per athlete. Parking is included in admission. Log on to www.spookynooksports.com to register.
UMass has been ranked #10 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Preseason Poll, and is the first of eight teams the Owls will play who are ranked in the poll as of now.Â
