Field Hockey Handed First Loss of the Season at #4 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. - Despite a strong second-half effort offensively, Temple field hockey was unable to convert on its opportunities as #4 Duke handed the Owls a 3-0 loss on Sunday afternoon. It was the first loss of the season for Temple, who moves to 3-1 overall while Duke improves to 4-0.

After taking just three shots in the first half, the Owls took eight in the second. Duke goalkeeper Lauren Blazing made all four of her saves in the second half to preserve the shutout. Temple's Lizzy Millen finished with six saves, making five of them in the first half.

Temple's Alyssa Delp had the most success getting open in front of the cage, taking four shots in the game including two that were saved by Duke.

Millen already had four saves in the contest before the Blue Devils finally got one past her in the 19th minute. Duke's Ashley Kristen received a pass from outside the circle by Aileen Johnson, and finished to the left post past Millen.

Alexa Macintire made it 2-0 in the 30th minute off a pass from Heather Morris. Two of Temple's three first-half shots were on corner plays in the final minutes of the first half, but both went wide.
Just over 11 minutes into the second half, Duke scored its final goal when Jessica Buttinger got one past Millen on a tip-in.

Eight of the final nine shots of the game over an 18-minute span were taken by Temple, but Blazing held strong in the cage for the Blue Devils.

Temple will be back in action in its first home game, set for Friday, Sept. 12 at 3:00 p.m. against Delaware.
