"White Out" Men's Basketball Game Set for Thursday Against UConn

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's basketball team will be looking to extend its season-best win streak to four games on Thursday, Feb. 11 when the Owls (14-8, 8-3) host UConn (17-6, 7-3) in a "White Out" game at the Liacouras Center. Tip time is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN2, and 8,000 commemorative white Temple t-shirts will be available to fans in attendance.
This is the fifth straight season that Temple is hosting a "White Out" contest, and the Owls are 3-1 in such games including last season's 75-63 win over the Huskies on Senior Day (March 7).

Headlines
• Temple has won six of its last seven contests as well as its last three straight. The Owls edged UCF on the road in their most recent game, 62-60, giving 10th-year head coach Fran Dunphy his 517th career victory to make him the all-time most winningest coach in Philadelphia Big 5 history.
• Dunphy surpassed former Owl coach John Chaney (516 wins) for the honor. Dunphy's 207 wins at Temple rank third all-time behind Chaney and Harry Litwack.
• Junior Mark Williams was the x-factor for the Owls in their win at UCF, coming off the bench for a team and season-high 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field including a pair of three-pointers.
• The Owls' other recent wins include an 89-80 upset of #8 and previously undefeated SMU on Jan. 24, and an 83-79 overtime thriller against Tulsa on Feb. 4.
• Senior guard Quenton DeCosey is Temple's leading scorer this season with 16.5 points per game, ranking second in the American Athletic Conference, and has scored in double figures in 20 of 22 contests including the last 10 straight. He has scored 1,351 points to rank 31st all-time in program history. When DeCosey scores at least 20 points, the Owls are 7-1 so far this season.
• DeCosey led Temple with 21 points in the Tulsa win, all scored in the second half and overtime. He had the assist on a three-pointer by senior Devin Coleman with two seconds left in regulation that forced OT.
• The Owls' only two losses in their past 10 games have come in the final seconds both at Memphis (67-65 on Jan. 13) and at East Carolina (64-61 on Jan. 27).
• With the SMU win on Jan. 24, Temple has now taken down a Top 10 team in seven of the last eight seasons.
• Coleman went a perfect 8-of-8 from the field including 7-of-7 from long range against SMU. He scored a career and game-high 23 points, and was named The American's Player of the Week.
• With 7.8 made three-pointers per game, Temple leads all teams in the American Athletic Conference.
• As a team, the Owls rank third in the nation in fewest turnovers per game at 9.4. They have recorded single digit turnovers in 12 of 22 games, tallying as few as five (vs. Delaware on Nov. 29 and at USF on Jan. 31).
• The Owls have three regular-season wins over Top 25 teams, the most since 1999-00. This season also marks the first since 1998 that the Owls have beaten two Top 25 opponents on the road. Temple has beaten at least one ranked opponent for nine straight seasons.
• Senior Jaylen Bond, the Owls' leading rebounder at 7.9 rpg (eighth in the league), missed two games in a row with a lower back injury before returning to action on Jan. 31 at USF. He notched his sixth double-double of the season in the Tulsa win on Feb. 4 with 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
• UConn is 17-6 overall, and has gone 7-2 since losing to Temple at home on Jan. 5. The Huskies have won three straight including a 77-57 win at Memphis on Feb. 4.
• Four players average in double figures in scoring for UConn, led by graduate forward Shonn Miller at 13.5 ppg and redshirt junior guard Rodney Purvis at 13.4 ppg. Sophomore guard/forward Daniel Hamilton averages 11.8 ppg along with conference-best 9.0 rpg and 5.0 assists per game (second in the league).

• Temple and UConn are meeting for the 13th time, with the series now tied at 6-6.
• The Owls have won three straight meetings, including a 55-53 victory on the Huskies' home court earlier this season on Jan. 5.
• UConn had won four straight dating back to 1964 until the Owls won both of last season's meetings. Temple won 57-53 in overtime at the XL Center on Dec. 31 before earning a 75-63 home win on March 7.
• The Huskies won both meetings in 2013-14 (90-66 at UConn on Jan. 21; 68-55 at Temple on Feb. 20 while ranked 21st).
• Prior to the formation of the American Athletic Conference in 2013-14, the most recent game between the teams had been on Jan. 27, 1965 at UConn, a game the Huskies won 71-60.
• In a 65-59 win over UConn in the 1956 NCAA Tournament, the Owls' Fred Cohen set a still-standing record for rebounds in a game with 34.Â
All-Time Winningest Coach in Big 5 History
With Temple's win at UCF on Feb. 6, head coach Fran Dunphy surpassed former Owl coach John Chaney to become the all-time winningest coach in Philadelphia Big 5 history. Dunphy, who became the fifth coach to win 200 games at two schools while taking each to six NCAA Tournaments, is the one of eight coaches to have won 200 or more games at a Big 5 school since the city league was formed in 1955. Senior Quenton DeCosey is the only Temple men's basketball player averaging in double figures in scoring this season.The 6-5 guard ranks second in the conference in scoring at 16.5 ppg, and has scored in double figures in 20 of 22 games. Since 1952-53, only the 1995-96 Temple Owls ended a season with just one double-figure scorer. Marc Jackson led that squad, which posted a 20-13 record while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, in both scoring (15.7 ppg) and rebounding (9.0 rpg). Johnny Miller was the team's second-leading scorer (9.9 ppg). The 2015-16 Owls have something else in common with that team. Both squads have a Levan Alston on their roster as Levan Alston, Sr. averaged 8.5 ppg as a senior in 1995-96 while his son, Levan Shawn Alston Jr. (2.7 ppg), is a reserve on this year's squad.
