City Rival Penn Visits Howarth Field on Sunday at 2 PM

PHILADELPHIA - City rival Penn (5-6) will make its first-ever visit to Howarth Field on Sunday, Oct. 15, facing Temple field hockey (4-9) at 2 p.m. in a non-conference contest. The last time the two teams played at Temple was in 2015 at Geasey Field. Both teams are looking for a weekend split after suffering losses on Friday.

Scouting Temple
> Temple had won two straight home games before falling to Villanova by a score of 3-1 on Friday. The two wins were both by a score of 3-2 and both in overtime. In the most recent victory, redshirt senior Sarah Keer converted on a penalty stroke in OT to lift the Owls to a 3-2 win vs. UC Davis on Oct. 8.Â
> The Owls allowed two early goals against Villanova before getting the first career goal from sophomore Lucy Reed to make it 2-1. Right before halftime, the Wildcats made a penalty stroke and the 3-1 score stood through the rest of the game.
>Â The Owls are 0-5 in BIG EAST play with two league games left on the slate at Quinnipiac and vs. Liberty.
> Senior Rachael Mueller leads Temple with six goals and 16 total points. Mueller scored early in the second half of the UC Davis win, tying the game at 1-1. Her six season goals including two game-winning goals.
> Sophomore Kathryn Edgar is one of three players with two goals to tie for second on the team, and Edgar has a team-best five assists as well. Keer and sophomore Maddie Merton have also scored two goals apiece.
> Freshman Taylor Alba recorded both her first career goal and first career assist in the Owls' loss at Georgetown on Sept. 29, and added a second assist on Mueller's game-tying goal vs. UC Davis.
> Edgar was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her three-assist effort in the Owls' win vs. Sacred Heart on Sept. 24. Mueller earned the same honor after scoring twice in the Owls' 3-1 win at Holy Cross, and Keer was named to this week's honor roll after her game-winning goal vs. UC Davis.
> Three of Temple's losses have come against nationally ranked teams, while another loss was to Saint Joseph's, now also ranked in the Top 25.Â
Scouting Penn
> The Quakers are 5-6 overall and coming off a 2-0 Ivy League loss at Columbia on Friday.
> Penn has faced four teams ranked in the Top 25. The Quakers lost to three of those opponents, but earned a 3-2 overtime win at #22 American on Sept. 24.
> Three of the Quakers' five wins have been shutout victories, including their recent 3-0 defeat of Dartmouth on Oct. 7.
> Senior and two-time All-American Alexa Hoover leads Penn with seven goals and three assists for 17 total points. The Quakers recently lost senior starting goalkeeper Liz Mata to injury, and sophomore Ava Rosati has gone 1-2 in the cage since then.
