PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Temple field hockey team fell 1-0 at No. 18 Rutgers Sunday afternoon despite a solid performance against a top-20 opponent. With the loss, the Owls fall to 6-9 (2-4 Big East) with two games left on the schedule.
Recapping the Game
> The game was slow to start, with just one shot going on the board in the first quarter.
> The Scarlett Knights picked up the pace in the second quarter, putting five shots on goal.
> The Owls' best chance to score came in the third quarter with a shot on goal from Claire Thomas, but a Rutgers save kept the score even at 0-0.
> Rutgers put the game away at the beginning of the fourth quarter, after a goal in the third quarter was called back.
Statistically Speaking
> The Scarlett Knights outshot the Owls, putting 11 on target.
> The Rutgers offense put Temple to work, with Cristina Carotenuto recording 10 saves.
Quotable
"Today was a big test for us. Honestly, we came in a little intimidated in the first half and played very reactionary. After having the opportunity to regroup at the half, we were much more composed and defended our circle quite nicely. We were fortunate to have successfully used video referrals to help us keep Rutgers off the board in the third quarter. While we are very proud of the continuous growth we are making, we can't win games if we don't generate an attack and become more threatening on our attacking end. This will be the big focus for us in our final week of practice." – Temple head coach Susan Ciufo
Next Up
> Temple will close out the regular season next weekend, finishing Big East play at Quinnipiac and hosting LIU Brooklyn for Senior Day.
