Field Hockey Drops Game to UConn
10.4.19 | Field Hockey
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple field hockey team fell 5-0 to Big East opponent UConn Friday night in the team's lone contest of the weekend. The Owls defense stood tall against the Huskies, but the No. 3 team in the nation proved to be too much.
Recapping the Game
> The Owls showed improvement in their possession, keeping UConn off the board until the end of the first quarter.
> UConn scored twice within the span of two minutes in the second before closing out the half with a 4-0 lead.
> The Huskies scored their final goal of the game coming out of halftime, with both teams going scoreless in the fourth.
> Junior Dani Batze recorded her second defensive save in a row for Temple, her fourth of the season.
Statistically Speaking
> The Huskies out shot the Owls, with Claire Thomas leading the team with two shots.
> Cristina Carotenuto posted four of the team's eight saves, with Maddie Lilliock recording three.
Quotable
"It's never a goal of ours to come out and lose a game or to get shut out. UConn is No. 3 in the nation and with us being in a transition season, we did some nice things tonight. They reshaped quite well and that gave our defense a tough time, but I was proud of how we were able to manage that. Three of their goals coming from the same corner is something that we need to be able to recognize sooner and defend. We learned a lot from UConn in order to go forward and face Georgetown next weekend so there's a lot of positives from tonight's game." – Temple head coach Susan Ciufo
Next Up
> Temple will have bit of a break before its next game, with a four-game road stretch on the books next for the Owls.
