Men’s Basketball Falls to Tulane, 81-64

PHILADELPHIA –Playing just two days after the passing of legendary coach John Chaney, Temple fell to visiting Tulane, 81-64, Sunday afternoon at the Liacouras Center. The Green Wave improves to 7-5, 2-5 in the AAC while the Owls fall to 4-5, 3-5 in conference play.
Junior Jake Forrester and redshirt freshman Damian Dunn each scored 15 points to lead the Owls, with Forrester adding nine rebounds. Jaylen Forbes led five Tulane double-figure scorers with 23 points.
Recapping the Game
First Half
> After Tulane took a quick 4-0 lead, the Owls went on a 12-2 run, including seven straight points to take a 12-6 advantage.
> Forbes drained two straight threes to quickly even the game at 14 with 12:21 to play, with the margin staying within a possession over the next four minutes.
> Tulane then took advantage of a Temple scoring drought, going on a 16-3 run, including 10 straight points over a five-minute stretch to take a 24-17 lead.
> Jeremiah Williams broke the Owls' scoreless streak with a basket to ignite a 7-0 Owls run to tie the contest at 24. Khalif Battle completed the two-minute stretch with a top of the key jumper and a corner three-pointer.
> The Green Wave closed the half strong, outscoring the Owls 11-3 over the final five minutes to take a 35-27 lead into the break.
Second Half
> Temple jumped out quickly to start the final 20 minutes, scoring the first nine points during a 14-4 run to take a 41-39 lead.
> The lead would then change three times before an 11-3 run gave Tulane a 57-49 advantage with 8:55 remaining.
> The Green Wave extended its lead to 60-51 on a three-point play by Kevin Cross, only to have the Owls answer with an ally-oop dunk by J.P. Moorman II off a dish from Dunn and a Dunn pull-up jumper to cut the margin to five, 60-55.
> Tulane then clamped down defensively, holding the Owls scoreless for over four minutes, taking its largest lead, 67-55, at the three-minute mark on a trey by Jordan Walker.
> The Green Wave then sealed the win down the stretch at the line, making nine of 10 over the final 2:33.
Statistically Speaking
> Williams had a season-high 11 rebounds while matching his season-best eight assists.
> Forrester reached double-figures for the fourth straight game.
> Tulane controlled the glass, out-rebounding Temple 43-28.
