Temple Field Hockey Set for Trip to Old Dominion, Hosts Penn Sunday

PHILADELPHIA – Following an impressive 6-0 win over Lock Haven, the Temple University field hockey team returns to BIG EAST play with an important conference matchup at Old Dominion on Friday at noon. The Owls then close the weekend at home, hosting city rival Penn in non-conference action Sunday at noon at Howarth Field.

Scouting Temple
The Owls (10-3, 2-2 BIG EAST) bounced back from a narrow 1-0 loss to UConn with a dominant 6-0 win over Lock Haven last Sunday. The victory marked Temple's fourth straight 10-win season and the 29th in program history.
With six goals against Lock Haven, Temple now leads the BIG EAST with 2.69 goals per game. Senior Peyton Rieger ranks tied for third in the conference in both goals (7) and assists (5), while her 20 points are tied for second overall.
Defensively, Temple recorded its fourth shutout of the year and ranks fourth in the league in goals-against average (1.54). Goalkeeper Alex Lepore ranks second in the BIG EAST with a 1.24 GAA, trailing only Liberty's Diane Saint Martin (.835).
Nationally, Temple is one of just 11 Division I programs to reach 10 wins this season, joining North Carolina (12), Saint Francis (11), Wake Forest (11), UMass (11), Northwestern (11), Harvard (11), Syracuse, Appalachian State, Liberty and Virginia.
The Owls close the regular season with one of the nation's toughest slates, tied for the 11th hardest remaining schedule in Division I. Their final five regular-season opponents—Old Dominion (5-7), Penn (5-5), Liberty (10-1), Yale (9-2) and Providence (8-5)—boast a combined 37-20 record.

Scouting Old Dominion
The Monarchs (5-7, 3-1 BIG EAST) are coming off a 4-1 win at Villanova and have dropped only one conference contest, a 1-0 road loss to No. 6 Liberty. ODU has outscored BIG EAST opponents 8-2 in league play, recording two shutouts (2-0 vs. Providence and Quinnipiac).
Offensively, Sian Emslie (7G, 5A, 19 pts.), Sanci Molkenboer (4G, 5A, 13 pts.) and Josie Painter (6G, 12 pts.) lead a balanced attack. The Monarchs rank third in the BIG EAST in goals per game and second in points per game, while Emslie sits second in the conference in both points and goals per game.
Goalkeeper Suus Broers holds a 1.72 goals-against average and a .667 save percentage, ranking seventh and eighth in the league, respectively. She has made at least four saves in each of her past three outings.All-Time Series: Old Dominion leads 30-6-1. Temple has won the last two meetings, including a 2-1 double-overtime victory in the 2024 BIG EAST Semifinals and a 1-0 win during the regular season at Howarth Field. The two victories snapped a nine-game ODU streak in the series. The Owls seek their second three-game win streak against the Monarchs, previously achieved from 2014–16.
Scouting Penn
The Quakers (5-5, 1-3 Ivy) face Columbia on Friday before visiting Philadelphia. Penn is coming off a 1-0 win at Villanova and has faced one of the nation's toughest schedules, ranking ninth in strength of schedule. All five of its losses have come against nationally ranked opponents.
Julia Ryan (6G, 1A, 13 pts.), Sydney Mandato (2G, 5A, 9 pts.), Philine Kias (3G, 2A, 8 pts.) and Honor Roberts (3G, 2A, 8 pts.) headline the offense, which averages 2.0 goals per game while allowing 2.6. GK Ruby de Frees holds a .667 save percentage and a 2.63 goals-against average. Her 5.3 saves per game rank second in the Ivy League.All-Time Series: Temple leads 33-22-2 in 57 all-time meetings. Penn, however, has won eight straight in the series dating to 2015.
