Temple Field Hockey Opens 2025 Slate at Delaware, Hosts Central Michigan Sunday

PHILADELPHIA – Following a pair of exhibitions, the Temple University field hockey team opens the 2025 season with a trip to Delaware on Friday at 3 p.m. and begins its home slate on Sunday at noon against Central Michigan.

Scouting Temple
- The Owls look to build off their first BIG EAST Championship appearance since 2015.
- In the preseason coaches' poll, Temple was picked fourth behind UConn, Liberty and Old Dominion.
- Senior midfielder Agustina Tucceri was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. She registered three goals and two assists last season, including the game-winner in double overtime of the BIG EAST semifinal.
- Seniors Halle Aschenbach, Peyton Rieger and Tucceri were named team captains. The trio has combined for 91 starts, 19 goals and 15 assists for 53 career points as Temple's returning offensive leaders.
- Goalkeepers Isabella Ospitale and Alex Lepore return from last season. Ospitale made 15 starts and 18 appearances, leading the BIG EAST with a .746 save percentage and posting a 1.10 goals-against average. Temple ranked second in the league in save percentage and shutouts per game.
- The Owls will look to replace their top three point-scorers from 2024: NFHCA All-American and BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year Alize Maes, NFHCA All-Region Second Team member Tess Muller and All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree Devin Kinzel.
- Temple's freshman class impressed in exhibitions against Rider and Saint Joseph's. Newcomers include:

Scouting Delaware
- The Blue Hens begin a new era in 2025 under head coach Tara Zollinger, who guided Division II Shippensburg to three national titles and four championship appearances.
- Temple alumna Devin Kinzel '25 begins her coaching career as an assistant at Delaware. She closed her Owls career with 14 goals, nine assists and 37 points in 77 contests.
- Delaware's roster features nine freshmen and four transfers: Ashlee Bucksar (Liberty), Linde van Leeuwen (Bryant), goalkeeper Kristi Merashoff (Northeastern) and Alexa Michielsen (Shippensburg).
- The Blue Hens, last year's CAA champions, are competing as an independent program in 2025 as the athletic department transitions to Conference USA, which does not sponsor field hockey. Delaware went 12-10 in 2024, advanced to the NCAA Tournament with wins over Northeastern, Monmouth and Fairfield, and fell to North Carolina in the second round.
Delaware Series History
- Friday marks the 38th meeting between the programs, located less than 50 miles apart.
- Delaware leads the all-time series 23-13-1. Temple won the most recent meeting, 2-0, in 2023 at Howarth Field.
- The Owls seek their first win in Newark since 2011, with the Blue Hens having won the last three at home.
Scouting Central Michigan
- CMU opens its season Friday night at Drexel.
- The Chippewas were picked to finish tied for ninth in the MAC preseason poll.
- CMU went 3-14 last season, dropping its final 13 games.
- Senior forward Mallory Camryn, an NFHCA All-Region Second Team and All-MAC First Team selection, returns after leading the team with 10 goals and four assists for 24 points.
- Temple alumna Ashley Cogger '25 is a team captain for CMU. The graduate goalkeeper made two appearances for the Owls in 2024, earning a shutout win over Lehigh.
Central Michigan Series History
- Sunday's game marks the second meeting between programs, with the Chips earning a 2-1 win in Mount Pleasant during the 2002 campaign.
