Owls lose despite out-shooting opponent 21-7

PHILADELPHIA – Despite out-shooting its opponent 21-7, the Temple field hockey team suffered a 2-1 loss to visiting Bryant (2-9) on Sunday afternoon. The Owls have struggled to score goals over a stretch of games, and now stand at 4-8 for the season.

Bryant scored both of its goals in the opening 11 minutes of the contest. Elise Driscoll scored the first, unassisted, and also passed to teammate Courtney Landi for the Bulldogs' second goal.

The scoring was complete within the first 15 minutes of play, as Temple's Molly Doyle scored off her own rebounded shot and save at the 14:12 mark to pull the Owls within one.

That score would stand despite Temple's offensive dominance. The Owls kept the ball on Bryant's end for nearly all of the second half and out-shot the Bulldogs 11-1, but could not find the back of the net.

Jennifer Gullotti was impressive in goal for Bryant with 10 total saves. The Bulldogs also got a defensive save from Rachel Blitz.

Temple had nine penalty corners while Bryant had none, but to no avail.

The Owls will now begin Atlantic 10 play looking to start with a clean slate. First up is a 3:00 p.m. contest against Saint Joseph's at home on Friday, Oct. 8.
