Owls come up short against nationally-ranked Nittany Lions

PHILADELPHIA – #15 Penn State struck for two goals each in the first and second half to give the Nittany Lions a 4-0 win over the Temple field hockey team on Saturday afternoon at Geasey Field. Temple started the season 4-0 but now stands at 4-3 overall, while Penn State improves to 4-2.
Whitney Reddig opened the scoring for Penn State eight minutes into the game followed by Lauren Purvis giving Penn State a two-goal cushion less than three minutes later. Brittany Grzywacz and Amy Kelsey each found the back of the net to extend the Nittany Lions' lead late in the second half.
Temple found itself on the defensive for much of the game, as the nationally-ranked Nittany Lions' offense proved to be too much to handle. The Owls were out-shot 7-3 in the first half and out-shot 14-3 in the second half.
Temple goalkeeper Sarah Dalrymple recorded a season-high 10 saves.
Penn State Head Coach Charlene Morett earned her 400th career victory in her 24th season with the Nittany Lions.
The Cherry and White return to the field Wednesday, Sept. 22 against Drexel in the fourth of a five-game homestand for TU.
