#16 Field Hockey Heads to #19 ODU and William & Mary This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA - Looking to keep the momentum going after wins in five of the last six games, the 16th-ranked Temple field hockey team heads out on the road for two challenging games on Friday and Saturday. The Owls (10-4, 2-0) will play at #19 Old Dominion (7-6, 1-1) in a BIG EAST contest at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, and will head to William & Mary (5-8) for a 2:00 p.m. game on Saturday, Oct. 18.
Temple tops the BIG EAST Conference standings along with #4 UConn, as both teams have started out at 2-0 in league play. The top four teams at the end of the regular season will compete at the BIG EAST Tournament Nov. 7 and 9 at Providence.Â
#19 Old Dominion will be the fifth ranked team the Owls have faced this season. Temple was unranked in the preseason poll, but earned a ranking in week one after a 2-0 shutout of then-#10 UMass. The Owls have been ranked for six weeks, coming in at #16 this week, and they also stand at #10 in the NCAA RPI.
HEADLINES
• The Owls have won five of their last six games, including two home wins last weekend.
• Temple is nationally ranked for a six week in a row, coming in at #16 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, released on Oct. 14...The Owls have been ranked as high as #13 this season.
• Senior Amber Youtz scored seven of Temple's 11 goals in two wins last week, and was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for a second time...She was also named Corvias ECAC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, Phila Field Hockey Attacker of the Week and Under Armour OwlSports.com Athlete of the Week.
• The NCAA released its fourth RPI of the season on Oct. 14, and Temple's RPI is now #10 in the nation.
• Temple won its BIG EAST opener in dramatic fashion at Providence on Oct. 3, falling behind 3-0 before coming back to tie the score in the final 16 minutes...Freshman Maiyah Brown scored the game-winner in the seventh minute of overtime off an assist from Youtz for a final score of 4-3.
• The Owls swept the BIG EAST Conference weekly awards recently (Sept. 29), with Lizzy Millen earning her third BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week Award this season and Youtz earning her first BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week Award for 2014.
• Youtz has now recorded seven career hat tricks, and did so for the second time in back-to-back games this past weekend...Her four-goal effort in the win vs. Villanova was the second such performance of her career.
• Millen currently ranks third in NCAA Division I with a saves percentage of .806 and leads the BIG EAST in saves percentage while ranking second in saves per game...Her 383 career saves rank seventh all-time at Temple.
• Sophomore Paige Gross currently leads the team and ranks 19th in the nation with 10 assists (0.71 per game).Â
• Three of the Owls' four losses are to teams ranked in the current Top 10 (#2 Maryland, #5 Penn State and #8 Duke), and the fourth was a 1-0 overtime loss to Drexel.
• With 18 goals so far in 2014, Youtz has now scored 60 goals as an Owl to rank fourth all-time...Her 142 career points also rank fourth all-time...She ranks  third in NCAA DI with 1.29 goals per game, and fourth with 2.79 points per game.
•  Old Dominion is 7-6 overall, with all six losses coming against teams ranked in the Top 20...The Monarchs are coming off a 4-0 loss to #6 UConn followed by a 3-1 win at Quinnipiac.
• Temple trails ODU by a wide margin in the all-time series, 19-1-1, with the Owls' lone win coming back in 1982...Temple lost 1-0 to the Monarchs in 2013, but prior to that, the teams had not met since 2001.
• William & Mary is 5-8 this season and will not play again before hosting Temple on Saturday...The Tribe have won four of their last five including a big, 4-3 overtime win at James Madision on Oct. 12...Temple and William & Mary have faced each other only twice, with the Owls winning both, most recently getting a win in 2001.
