Four Temple players were honored by the conference this week, highlighted by the announcement of senior Amber Youtz as the 2014 BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year in a vote by the league's six head coaches. This year marks the second time Youtz has earned such an honor, after also being named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year in 2012. She was joined on this year's BIG EAST First Team by fellow seniors Nicole Kroener and Lizzy Millen, while junior Alyssa Delp earned BIG EAST Second Team honors.
Temple head coach Amanda Janney has taken the Owls to a conference tournament in all 10 years of her coaching career on North Broad Street. Under Janney's leadership, Temple has never finished below fourth place in the regular season in either the Atlantic 10 or the BIG EAST.
When Temple and ODU met a few weeks ago on Oct. 17 in Norfolk, the Monarchs came out on top by a score of 3-2. ODU took an early 2-0 lead in the first 13 minutes, but Temple bounced back with a pair of goals by Youtz and Delp to tie the score before halftime. The tie stood for 20 minutes of second-half action before ODU scored the game-winner on a corner.
